NANS blasts EFCC Boss, Ola Olukoyede, for labelling Nigerian students as internet fraudsters.

The newly elected Vice President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrd. Muh’d A.Tenimu, Justice (GCNS) has strongly criticized the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, for referring to Nigerian students as internet fraudsters.

The NANS Vice President facing media in Abuja has expressed his disappointment and said it was unfair and unjust for Olukoyede to label all Nigerian students as criminals, tarnishing their reputation. He argued that such a statement generalizes and stigmatizes an entire group of students, many of whom are working hard to excel academically and contribute positively to society.

The NANS Vice President emphasized that while they recognize the need to combat cybercrime, it is wrong to stereotype and vilify all Nigerian students. He urged the EFCC to focus on identifying the real criminals involved in cyber fraud rather than tainting the image of innocent students.

Furthermore, the NANS Vice President called for a public apology from the EFCC Chairman, highlighting that labelling Nigerian students without concrete evidence is irresponsible and undermines the nation’s education system.

He also stated that the NANS leadership would not hesitate to mobilize students across the country to protest against the EFCC if an apology is not issued. The Vice President urged the EFCC to thoroughly investigate cases of cybercrime without prejudice and to work in collaboration with student bodies to address the issue effectively.
